Matthew A. Diez

Matthew Diez passed away suddenly August 4, 2021. He was born in Portland, Oregon and lived his whole life in the Vancouver, Washington area. Over the years he was fortunate to travel to several part of the world including visiting with family in Spain. Matt was baptized at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, was an altar boy and attended school there through the 8th grade where he made some of his best life long friends. He was talented athletically and scored a "hole in one" at Bowyer's Par 3 when he was 9! He graduated from Jesuit high school where he also made some life long friends.. He loved soccer, playing most of his life, with the highlight being his years with the Jesuit HS varsity team winning state championships. Matt received the "Most inspirational award for exemplary display of ethics, sportsmanship and integrity". Matt enjoyed working with youth. He worked at Tualatin Parks and Rec. and the Clinton and Gloria Boys & Girls Club in Vancouver. He also coached a high school girls soccer team. He developed a woodworking hobby and created many innovative projects for family and friends. People who knew Matt refer to him as a gentle and caring person always smiling and willing to lend a helping hand. He was a gift from God for his family and those around him for which we will be thankful forever. There is an emptiness in our hearts that will never be filled. Matt leaves behind his father, Angel; mother, Kathy; sister, Kristin (Josh); nephews Cayden and Finn; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Angel and Engracia Diez and Harry and Bette Bonck. There will be a funeral mass at St.Joseph's Church 400 S. Andresen Rd. A graveside service for immediate family will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.There will be a celebration of life reception at the Marshall House, 1301 Officer's Row, Vancouver WA 98661 from 3-5.
