Margie An Brown

On July 6, 2021, the world lost Margie Brown, a beautiful mother, nana and friend, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She always left a penny, never took a penny. Everyone who knew Margie was better for it, but not before her 12th cup of coffee in the morning - that was just playing with fire. She had only love in her heart, unless you couldn't properly merge on the road, then she might have some words. She is survived by her son, Jim, who was also her best friend. Never satisfied, she nonetheless decided to press her luck and ask the universe for a grandchild. Her bet paid off with the arrival of her granddaughter, Paige. Being Paige's "Nana" was Margie's most beloved role in her later years. In addition to family and friends, Margie loved all animals - cats and owls in particular. In fact, she once developed an owl-cat hybrid... unfortunately it flew away one day when she started the vacuum cleaner. Those who had been to her house knew that her backyard was essentially a nature preserve for animals looking for food or conversation: squirrels, peacocks, raccoons, wayward wolverines, unicorns, whatever wandered by. While she did reluctantly feed cougars, she did not talk to them out of loyalty to the University of Washington Huskies. Margie's fanaticism with the Huskies and Portland Trailblazers was legendary, having once been caught on the Kiss Cam with Clyde Drexler (it's still unclear whether or not he was a willing participant). And her love of the Huskies once prompted her to kidnap the Oregon Ducks' mascot, but her respect for animals made her do the right thing: throw it in the lake with the other ducks. One thing that was not a joke was her outlook on life. She would always light up any conversation with her smile, whether as an office receptionist during her career, or with her Bunco group of over 50 years. The value of one's life is not measured by wealth or power or fame; it is measured by one's contribution to goodness and family and to life in all forms. This is what Margie Brown gave every day. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., July 17, 2021, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Margie's family requests donations to the Humane Society of Southwest Washington
