Linda Lee Leggett

Linda Leggett of Vancouver, WA, passed away peacefully on Feb. 22 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Linda was married to Don Leggett June 5, 1959, and had two sons David (Monroe, WA) and Darrin (Vancouver), and a daughter Debbie (Colorado Springs, CO). Linda was the youngest of five children born to Lewis and Edith Batty. She was born in Hardman, OR, and also lived in Monument until she was in high school. She relocated to La Grande, OR, when her father accepted a new job. While in high school she thrived in athletics. She was voted the female athlete of the year at La Grande high school her senior year. She met Don in La Grande while working as a waitress; he was attending college at Oregon State University and working an internship for the Forestry Department. They were married shortly later. Together they lived in Southern California, New York, Seattle, and wintered in Arizona. They also travelled the country in an Alpha 5th wheel while being chased by tornado's one summer. Some of her fondest memories were her trips to Hawaii in 1981 and 1982. Linda stayed at home to raise her children until Debbie was in Elementary school. She then began her career as a school cook and later a playground monitor. She worked for Northshore School District for almost 20 years before retiring. She was also a Little League volunteer while living in Southern California. Linda was preceded in death by her brothers, Clinton and Joseph Batty. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Dale (Jim) from Boise, ID; and her brother Lewis Batty from La Grande; five grandchildren, Angela, Cody, Shadan, Kalil, and Cassidy; one great granddaughter, Phoenix; and ten nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews also. PeaceHealth Hospice provided service above and beyond expectations. The Hampton Ashley Inn and The Hampton Salmon Creek (the Koelsch Community) loved having Linda as part of their family and provided exceptional support for 5 years while she was in their care. We are indebted to them for their love, commitment, and care they provided for our loved one.
