Kathleen M McDevitt

KATHLEEN MARIE PINK MCDEVITT MARCH 13, 1932 - JULY 10, 2018 Kathleen Marie Pink McDevitt of Vancouver, WA and formerly of Magalia, CA and Simi Valley, CA passed away on July 10, 2018. Kathleen was born on March 13, 1932 at the family home in Saline, MI to Percy Francis Pink and Alice May Epsom Pink. At the time of her birth she had a brother, Herbert Francis and sister, Dorothy May. One of her brother's favorite stories that he often told was about the family dog, Teddy. When Kathleen was born Teddy was banished to the yard. He rounded up all the neighborhood dogs and brought them back home to stare through the window and witness the blessed event of Kathleen's birth. From that day on Kathleen and Teddy had a special relationship. Sometime around 1940, the family moved to the warmer climate of California on the advice of Percy's doctor. Percy was suffering from the after effects of a banana spider bite he received while working for Krogers Grocery. They eventually would reside in Huntington Park where Kathleen attended school and helped out at the family restaurant. She loved to take the street car everywhere, including the beach. She graduated from Huntington Park High School where she met her future husband, Charles "Chuck" David McDevitt Jr in choir class. They married on May 11, 1952 and had 66 loving and wonderful years together. After Chuck was discharged from the navy they eventually moved to Van Nuys, CA where they welcomed their first child, Kathleen Lynn and later their son, Timothy David. In the mid-1960's the family moved to Simi Valley, CA where Kathleen worked for Beneficial Finance. Sometime in early 1968, they learned they would be having their third and last child Shannon Beth. After Shannon Beth started elementary school, Kathleen worked as an office manager for Isaacs Chiropractic Corp in Newhall, CA until her retirement in the early 1990's. Chuck and Kathleen moved to Magalia, CA in early 1993. There she filled her days volunteering with the Paradise Baptist Church's events committee and CareNet, a crisis pregnancy center. She also loved going for afternoon tea and anniversary trips to the beach, as well as shopping for antiques. They lived in Magalia for 20 years and moved to Vancouver, WA in 2013 to be closer to their daughter, Shannon. She will be forever missed by her husband Chuck McDevitt, her children Timothy, Shannon and Shannon's husband Kiley Asato, her grandchildren Alexandria, William, Megan, Kyle and Emily, her niece Susan and her husband, David Graham as well as many other close friends and family members. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Percy and Alice, her brother Herbert and her sister Dorothy. She will always be remembered for the delicious pies and cakes she baked from scratch, her wicked sense of humor, her ability to read tea leaves and the all around beautiful person that was Kathleen Marie Pink McDevitt.
