Judith L. Trist

Judi Trist, of Battleground, WA, passed away on August 28th, 2024 after a long and brave battle with cancer. Judi was born Judith Lee Leach on November 16th, 1939 in Thayer Kansas. She grew up in San Diego, California, mostly raised by her grandparents. She attended La Sierra, a Seventh-Day-Adventist college in Southern California, where she met Kent Durden. They married in 1959 and had two girls, Krissy and Kim and settled in Ventura, CA. Kent's career as a wildlife photographer filled their lives with animals, nature walks, and many motorhome adventures. Judi was active in church and school activities, adding an admired artistic flair to all her contributions. After a divorce in 1974, Judi worked as a bookkeeper for Cleck's Beef and Bourbon Restaurant in Ventura. It was there that she met Brian, a tall, handsome man who was the District Manager of Coca-Cola in Ventura. Brian swept Judi off of her feet. Their first date was the same day that her first grandchild was born. They married in 1981. The next 20 years of marriage were a wonderful time for Judi as she became involved in her grandchildren's lives, seeing them grow and graduate high school. She attended Ventura Missionary Church and worked as the office manager for the church-sponsored Counseling Center. Judi started attending Bible studies and grew in her knowledge and faith. She devoted her free time to showing God's love to the little ones in Sunday School and other children's programs. During these years Brian and Judi also traveled, going on cruises, camping, and just hitting the road - always taking the dogs along when they could. In 2000, Brian and Judi retired and moved to Camas, Washington. Judi devoted her time to decorating the house, quilting, rug making, painting, and her other main hobby - shopping. They attended Columbia Presbyterian Church and Judi participated in multiple Bible Studies, taught children about God's love, and served at women's events. In 2018, Brian and Judi moved to a smaller home in Battleground, Washington. Throughout all of the phases in her life Judi remained steadfast and devoted to three things: her family, her faith, and beauty. Judi lived for her family and for the celebrations that she made special. She was proud of every family member and delighted in her great-grand-children. Judi demonstrated her love for Jesus in her actions. She was always a leader and volunteer. She loved learning - especially studying the Bible. She crocheted caps for premature babies and prayer shawls for people dealing with illness or tragedy. She loved helping and felt for all who were suffering. She gave generously to all. Judi was in awe of nature's beauty, especially flowers and sea life. She adored color and noticed the various hues in flowers or paintings. She celebrated God's beauty by designing quilts, paintings, floral displays, and drawings. She was a true artist in that sense - though she would have never thought of herself that way. Judi is survived by her loving husband, Brian, her devoted daughters Kim Fiano, from Ventura, CA, and Krissy Durden from Portland, OR; her grandson Ryan Sullivan, wife Brianna Lawrence, and great grand-daughter Scout from Portland, OR; her granddaughter Ashlee Sullivan, husband Dave Biskup and great-granddaughter Bella from Beacon, NY. Graveside services for Judi Trist will be held September 27th, 2024 at 1:00 at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
