J E. DeHart

Jay Edward De Hart, 79, went home to heaven on July 30, 2022. Jay was born on June 4, 1943 to Jewell Edward De Hart and Lila LauRae (Mitchell) DeHart in San Jose, CA. He graduated from Mt. Diablo High School in 1961 and Diablo Valley Community College in 1963 with an AA in Police Science, in Concord, CA. Jay and Anne met when he was a police cadet patrolling by the Concord, CA library where Anne worked. It was love at first sight! Anne told her mom: "That's the man I'm going to marry!" Sure enough, they were married in 1964. Jay is survived by his wife Anne-Louise (Moore) DeHárt, a son Matt DeHart and daughter in-law Amy Childers DeHart. One son David DeHart predeceased him. Siblings Michael DeHart and wife Karen, Penny (De Hart) Palmer and husband Jim Palmer, and Pam (DeHart) Henry and husband Lacy Henry (deceased). Grandchildren: Kimberly Wanner, Madison Capen, Derek De Hart, Maggie Millican, Lily Elliott, Erin Elliott and four great grandchildren. Jay was a Concord CA police officer, then a correctional counselor at San Quentin Prison for many years. When he retired he and Anne went on some adventures. They moved to Nebraska when their first grandchild was on the way, then many years later they followed a son to Georgia for a few years. Then they followed him again to the Pacific Northwest! Jay's faith was very important to him. He invited Christ into his life many years ago while dating Anne. Prayer was an important part of his life, and he was a great encourager. He was very kind and had a wonderful sense of humor. He and Anne had a couple of life verses that were very meaningful to them: Jer. 29:11" For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Song of Solomon 2:4 "His banner over us is love." Jay will be greatly missed, but it's not a goodbye. It's a "see you later" for all of us who know Christ and trust His promises. Jay is set free!
