Cheryl De Koker Knight

Cheryl Frances De Koker Knight, 77, of Vancouver, Washington, passed away on June 25, 2023. She was born on January 20, 1945, in Seattle, WA, and grew up in Montana and Federal Way, Washington. Cheryl earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington State University. She was also a Fellow of the Life Office Management Association. After starting her career as an elementary school teacher, Cheryl made a significant career change in the mid-1970s when she became an underwriter at Hartford Steam & Boiler. Over the next twenty-five years as a health underwriter, she held management roles at Safeco, Blue Cross, and Harvard Pilgrim. Among these positions, Cheryl particularly cherished her time at Safeco, where she formed lasting friendships and met her true love, Jim Knight, in 1985. Cheryl and Jim resided in various locations including Bellevue, Washington, Washington DC, Boston, and finally settled in Vancouver, WA. For the past 23 years, she actively participated in the Fairway Village community, performing in community theatre, planning trips in the Travel Club and playing golf, where she was Handicap Chairman for the Ladies' Golf Club. Family and friends held a special place in Cheryl's heart, and she delighted in spending time with them. She travelled extensively throughout the United States and Europe, with Hawaii being a favorite destination that she visited multiple times. Cheryl had a passion for reading, needlepoint, making sausage balls with her late son Darren, indulging in sappy Lifetime movies, and collecting bears and art deco items. Cheryl will be remembered for her deep love for her family, her ability to connect with people from all walks of life, and her openness to embrace new experiences. She is survived by her devoted husband of 38 years, Jim Knight, her daughters Natalie and Jamey, her brothers Mel and Randy, and her grandchildren Ashley, Rex, and Rachel. In loving memory of Cheryl, her legacy lives on through the cherished memories and the impact she had on the lives of those who knew her. A memorial service will be held at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, located at 12513 SE Mill Plain Boulevard, on Saturday, September 9th at 2:00 pm.
