Audrey Ann Hansen

BELOVED WIFE, MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER AND GREAT GRANDMOTHER, Audrey Ann Hansen, 89 of Washougal, WA passed from this life to Eternal life on Wednesday, November 8, 2017. She died peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones. Audrey was born in York, Nebraska to Martin and Rena (Kathryn) Volzke. She was an only child and grew up on their farm in Gresham, Nebraska. Audrey was baptised and confirmed at St Peters Lutheran Church. She graduated from Gresham High School in 1945 and went on to Commercial Extension for a year in Omaha. She worked in Omaha for Fairmont Foods until 1946 as a bookkeeper. While there, she met Christian U. Hansen and on July 10, 1948 they were married at St Paul Lutheran Church in Gresham. They made their home in Omaha where she worked until their first daughter, Kathryn was born in 1950. She became a full time mother and wife. Their second daughter, Christine was born in 1953. Audrey went back to work when Kathy was in 6th grade. They eventually moved to Millard, Nebraska in 1965. She continued to work at various jobs until her last job at First Data Resources for 15 1/2 years as Payroll Manager. The largest payroll while she was working was 8,000 employees. During this employment she was able to travel for the company to many different places. She received an award along with a trip with her husband to Miami, Florida where they were wined and dined at a Country Club. In her spare time throughout her life she loved to sew for her kids and other people. She even made suits and ball gowns, including some for special events at the Aksarben Coliseum in Omaha. They were able to take a once-in-a-life-time trip to England, Ireland, Denmark and Switzerland in 1987 on the Concord. In 1988 Audrey and Chris both retired. In May of 1988 they moved to Vancouver, WA to be with Kathy and Bob and their three grandchildren. They enjoyed going to the ball games, concerts and camping together. Audrey loved to bowl, work in her garden, knit and was an avid reader. She attended Grace Lutheran Church in Vancouver and had many friends there. Chris passed away from Alzheimers in 1997 and five years later she decided to move with her daughter, Kathy and son-in-law, Bob to Washougal and lived with them for 15 years. While in Washougal, she attended St Matthew Lutheran Church. Her mobility declined and she went to Kent Place in Camas in May of 2017 to live out the rest of her life. Christine cared for her while Kathy and Bob traveled. She had several hospital stays since August and she passed away at the hospital. Audrey is survived by her daughters, Kathryn and Christine; her grandchildren; Kerri Walters of Woodland, Kelly Tommerup of Grants Pass, OR and Brian Schuckman, who moved here after retirement from the Air Force, her great grandchildren, Alyssa and David Walters, Ian and Ryan Tommerup, Christian and Callie Schuckman, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be from noon to 8 PM on Thursday, November 16th at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will be together at the visitation to greet from 5:30 to 8 PM. The funeral service will be attended by the family at Willamette National Cemetery on Friday. The Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 25th at St Matthew Lutheran Church in Washougal with a luncheon following the service.
