Arlene Virginia Brumsickle

ARLENE VIRGINIA (VAHSHOLTZ) BRUMSICKLE June 21, 1937 ~ May 19, 2014 Arlene Virginia (Vahsholtz) Brumsickle entered this world on June 21, 1937 born to parents Roy and Frieda Vahsholtz in Woodbine, Kansas. Undoubtedly, she arrived with a smile on her face and a heart filled with loving kindness since everyone who knew her will always remember those qualities about her. She ended her stay here and entered heavens gates on May 19, 2014 after a brief hospital stay following a fall resulting in injuries that ultimately caused her death. When Arlene was an infant, she, her parents, and her two brothers, moved to Washougal, WA where the family grew to include a total of six siblings. She graduated from Washougal High School then worked at Crown Zellerbach Paper for five years. When she married Gary W. Brumsickle on June 10, 1960, they settled in Kelso, WA where they have lived ever since. Arlene worked for 25 years as the membership manager for the Longview YMCA. She was well-known by folks there and was always quick to offer cheery greetings. She was known for her love of holidays, and decorating for them was one of her delights. In addition, she loved entertaining family and friends and sitting down to a beautifully appointed table with loved ones as guests thrilled her. Arlene loved birds, flowers, and her yard; one of her favorite places to go was Tsugawa Nursery. And Pier One will certainly notice her absence since it was her favorite place to shop! Her favorite place to spend time, though, was at the Ocean. Arlene is survived by her husband, Gary; son, Brian (Young-Sou); daughter, Julie Schuh (Loren); and five grandchildren: Hayden and Madyson Schuh, and Kaili, Kona, and Keahi Brumsickle. She is also survived by one remaining sibling, sister, Shirley (Vic) Hippe. In addition, JoAnne Vahsholtz, Barbara Vahsholtz, sisters-in-law, survive her. Brother-in-law, Dave Swan, and many nieces and nephews also survive Arlene. In addition, brother-in-law, Bill Brumsickle (Doris) and all the Brumsickle sons and families will miss Arlene's cheerful nature and her pleasure at spending time with them. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Duane, Vernon, Harold, and Norma. A service celebrating her life will be at Grace Lutheran Church at 2725 Dover St. in Longview, WA at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May, 24, 2014. Donations in memory of Arlene can be made to Grace Lutheran Church.
