Anthony J. Schmid

Anthony Joseph Schmid, 79, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022 after a courageous battle with Pancreatic and liver cancer......he never gave up hope. In his final moments, he was surrounded by his loving family. Tony was born on June 19, 1943 in Roseburg, Oregon to Anthony Joseph and Mabel E. Schmid. He was raised in Grants Pass, Oregon, attending Grants Pass High School and the Oregon Institute of Technology. Tony began working as a service manager and as a trained typewriter repairman in Vancouver, WA. In 1979 he began a successful career as a Real Estate Broker, continuing on to be a Managing Broker for Realty Pro, and being very well respected in his profession. He was so thankful for the amazing colleagues that he had the pleasure of working with and the many wonderful friendships he encountered along the way. An avid golfer, Tony enjoyed sharing the love of the game with his late wife Toni Travis Schmid and his friends, it was often on a Friday afternoon that you could find everyone on the course. He enjoyed fishing, especially steelhead fishing on the Lewis River, was active in the Vancouver Jaycees and was a girls softball coach for over 10 years. Tony loved college football, especially his "Oregon Ducks" ...on game day you could count on finding Tony and his Grandson Tyler Close enjoying a game together. Tony was preceded in death by his parents Anthony Joseph Schmid and Mabel E. Schmid, his sisters Beverly Schmid and Janis Wingard, his brothers Bob Hays and Bud Schmid and his late wife Toni Travis Schmid who passed away in April 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Tony is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Vonderohe and his son in law Art Vonderohe, his daughter Cynthia Schmid-Potter and son in law Thomas Potter, his Grandson Tyler Close, Granddaughter Lauren Elliott, his former wife Sandra Schmid and his canine companion "Annie". Tony also leaves behind an extended family of very dear friends who loved and supported him until his final moments. The family would like to thank you all for your love and support through this difficult time.
