William Robert Taylor, II

William "Chilly" Taylor was born on February 20, 1956 to William and Gladys Taylor. His siblings are Patricia, Christy, Sandra, and Jimmy. They were a military family and moved around a lot before settling back down in Portland, Oregon. Chilly graduated from Benson Polytechnic in 1974. After graduating from high school, Chilly joined the Army where he served as a military police officer. After Chilly was discharged from the military, he had many jobs including correctional officer, bartender, letter carrier, and other pursuits. Chilly worked for the US Postal Service for 20 years. While working there, he got his nickname Chilly and met his beautiful wife Lola. Between the two of them, they raised 5 children: Billy, Jodi, Bryan, Karen and Zack. Chilly had many hobbies and passions during his life and through those he gained many friends. He played catcher in baseball in his youth, and when he could no longer play the game he loved, he turned to coaching. He coached all three of his sons along with many of their friends in baseball, and instilled in them his love for the game. Chilly also played softball as an adult, where he received many raspberries and injuries. During one tournament, he received 17 stitches in his knee. Despite his doctors orders, he took to the field the following weekend to support his team. Chilly loved to be involved with any type of sport. He even loved to watch his two granddaughters play soccer, even though he called it a communist sport. He tried to see every one of his grandson's football games and would often brag about all of his 8 grandchildren. Chilly enjoyed bowling and was on several teams with Lola. He would bowl in charity events and tournaments, and he even ran a tournament in Arizona for a while. He enjoyed watching his beloved Chicago Bears and Cubs play on TV, and he got a chance to see the Bears play the 49ers a couple of years ago with his youngest son, Zack. Chilly befriended everyone he met and had a lifelong love for children. He showed this love through countless hours volunteering for Portland Toy & Joy, and as a baseball coach and umpire. The time that he devoted to the kids he came in contact with had a lasting impact on their lives. He always had a big heart when it came to kids.
