William Travis Chamousis

William (Bill) Travis Chamousis passed away on Nov 9th at the age of 75. (Jan 15, 1947 - Nov 9, 2022) He was the eldest of five children born to Virginia and Peter Chamousis and is survived by three siblings, five children and seven grandchildren; with one on the way. Bill was born in San Francisco but grew up in the San Fernando Valley where he graduated from Reseda High. After high school he enrolled in LA Pierce College, earned a degree in Police Science and joined the West Valley Division of the LA Police Department. Following a ten-year stint in law enforcement he opted for a safer life style. He purchased a small tire shop in San Francisco and successfully operated that business for the next ten years of his life. Bill was quite a handful from day one and continued to be for most of his life as a child, dubbed by his father as the "ringleader" of our clan. He loved to share stories of his adventures as a police officer as well as comparing notes with his father who was a Sheriff with LA County. There were a lot of laughs and interesting events. He had a passion for photography and, again following in his father's footsteps, was quite skilled at it. Bill suffered a cerebral aneurysm in 2000, nearly taking his life and leaving him totally disabled. Two years after the stroke and some very intense rehabilitation he began a new life living with his sister and her husband in Arroyo Grande, CA. He progressed to the point of being able to live on his own and continued to do so until Lewy Body Dementia ended that independence. During the time spent in various assisted living/extended care facilities he amazed everyone with his positive, loving outlook, friendly manner (no one was a stranger to Bill), and ever-present smile. One could hear his laugh all over the facilities in which he lived. He radiated joy and love in spite of the crippling effects of the disease and was never heard to utter a word of complaint, anger or resentment, professing daily how much he loved his life. He was the epitome of a soul at peace and fittingly, peacefully passed away while he slept. He is and always will be, "our big brother", and will be sorely missed by the many, many people whose lives he touched.
