Verdonna L. Bullard

Verdonna Lea Bullard was born on May 11, 1934 in Madison, South Dakota to Kenneth Warren and Florence Marie Ingalls. At the age of three her family moved to Oregon, where she lived the rest of her life. She attended Kellogg Grade School and Franklin High School. Jack William Bullard was born on September 13, 1934 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to William and Inez Annie-Mae Bullard. When Jack was seventeen his family moved to Oregon. He graduated from David Douglas High School. Verdonna and Jack were married on March 5, 1955. They had two daughters, Karen Marie and Kathy Lea. When Jack passed away in 2020, they had been married for sixty-nine years. After high school, Verdonna worked in the office at Safeway. The most important job for Verdonna was to be at home for her family, so once the girls were born she became a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. She was known as the neighborhood mom because most of the other mothers worked. If anyone had a problem or needed help, Verdonna was there. She was always there as a grandmother too. Jack worked for Safeway, Albertsons, Thriftway and Fred Meyer. He started off working in groceries and eventually became a produce manager. He retired for awhile and then decided to return to work part time in produce. He did retire eventually. Verdonna took pottery lessons, knitted and sewed many first day of school dresses for her daughters. She was a room mother when the girls were in school and accompanied the dance team Kathy was on to a competition in Boise, Idaho. She loved to read and was an avid reader until shortly before she passed. Jack loved to fish. He enjoyed fishing in rivers, lakes, the ocean, for salmon, trout, perch, anything he could catch. He wasn't always successful, but he enjoyed the journey. Gardening also brought joy to Jack. You could often find him in the garden when visiting their house. He loved those fresh vegetables! Jack loved his family and made sure that Sunday was reserved for family time. We would go bowling, fishing, to the movies, for a drive or sometimes stay at home and watch TV or play a game. Whatever we did, we did it together and it was fun! Verdonna and Jack loved going to the movies together, especially when the weather was bad. More than once, they would finish watching one movie and then buy another ticket and go watch another movie. They also enjoyed camping. Verdonna loved the beach and Jack loved the mountains. They would take turns and visit both places. Prineville and Kah-nee-ta were also favorite places to camp. Verdonna and Jack also enjoyed trying their luck at the casino every now and then! Jack passed away on July 3, 2020. Verdonna passed away on October 21, 2024. They are survived by Verdonna's sister, Marlys Brunton, their children Karen Wegener and her husband, Brian, Kathy Field and her husband, Bob, their grandson Matthew Field and his wife, Carly, and their great-grandchildren Josie Field and her husband, James, Melody Field and her fiancée, Omar, and Ethan Field and his girlfriend, Bree.
