Theresa "Terry" Catherine Buickrood

THERESA C. (BIROLO) RASO-BUICKEROOD SEPTEMBER 13, 1924 JUNE 8, 2013 Theresa "Terry" Buickerood passed away peacefully in Vancouver, Washington on June 8, 2013 where she lived near her son, his wife, granddaughters and great-grandchildren for over a year. She was born on September 13, 1924 to Giovanni and Margherita Birolo in San Mateo, California. Her parents both passed away when she was a young child and her aunt and uncle, Umberto and Louise Emanuel raised her as their own along with their daughter, her cousin, Rose in Menlo Park, California. She attended St. Joseph Elementary School and Sequoia High School where she met her husband. She married John David "Dave" Raso in 1947. Dave and his father were owners of Raso Fine Foods in Redwood City for many years. Dave and Terry resided in Menlo Park and Redwood City and had two sons, John David Jr. and Mark Domenic. Her husband predeceased her in 1958 followed by her son John Jr. in 1972. Theresa remarried in 1968 to Harvey Buickerood, who had also been widowed, and he brought two daughters Judy and Janet. They lived in San Carlos, California. Harvey predeceased her in 1998. Also, her very dear friend of ten years, John Giovanzana, also predeceased her in 2009. Theresa is survived by her son Mark Raso and his wife Pat; granddaughters Lisa Walsh and Laurel Burton, and her six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her cousins Jermaine Case, Sister Rosina Conrotto of the Sisters of Presentation, Jeanne Burr and Joanne Bortoli, along with many nieces, nephews and godchildren. Theresa always liked to be busy and loved to entertain family and friends. Dancing was a passion with her and she would love to dance at the parties held at the Italian Catholic Federation of which she was a member. She was also a member of Piemontesi nel Mondo of San Francisco. Much sadness followed Terry throughout her life, but her belief in God never diminished and her philosophy was that prayer and keeping busy would be her salvation. She always wanted to be remembered as being very proud of her Italian heritage, to have been a native Californian for over 87 years and been blessed with a happy up-bringing within a loving and caring family which she brought into her own family. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 13 at Crippen & Flynn Woodside Chapel, 400 Woodside Rd. in Redwood City from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with a Rosary at 7:00pm . A Funeral Mass will held be on Friday, June 14, 11am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 300 Fulton Street in Redwood City. Interment will follow at Alta Mesa Cemetery in Palo Alto.
