Sheila Mae Colletto

With her children by her side, Sheila Mae Colletto passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2025 at age 84 at Legacy Salmon Creek, Vancouver WA from congestive heart failure. In her last couple of days, we were grateful that Sheila was able to share memories, her love for Christ and proper good-byes with all six of her children, grandchildren and friends. Anyone who knew Sheila knew she was a strong-willed person, known by her family as "The General" who remained independent until her end of her life. Born on April 27,1940 to Roland Dougherty and Eloise Dougherty in Los Angeles, Sheila spent her early years in a variety of places, including Panama, Colorado and California. She graduated from Monterey High School in 1958. In the early years after her marriage, Sheila was a homemaker. In 1974, the family moved to the Pacific Northwest where her late husband attended bible college. After her children started school, Sheila began her career as a certified nursing assistant, working for many years at nursing homes including Columbia View Manor, Rose Vista Nursing Center, Kaiser and also served as temporary agency staff at various medical facilities within the Vancouver - Portland metropolitan area. She eventually became an owner and operator of an adult family home. After retiring from her caregiver career, she continued to care for people, most significantly her grandchildren who loved her dearly. The grandchildren were fortunate to spend much of their early years with grandparents who left them with happy memories and who made a lasting impression on each of them. While Sheila loved her family most, in particular the many Sunday spaghetti dinners she labored for hours to prepare and share with all of the kids who just "happened" to stop by, she was also a longtime attendee of Glenwood Community Church. She also loved German Shepherds and enjoyed taking them to the dog park. She also loved watching football and old western movies. She was an avid reader of books and when we say avid, we are talking thousands of books which she would generously swap with her family and neighbors.Sheila is survived by her children: Bert (Melissa) Colletto, Frank (Susan) Colletto, Colette (Keith) Tynan, Sue (Morgan) Colletto-Goodwin, David (Theresa) Colletto, and Salvatore (Stephanie) Colletto. Sister: Dottie Reed. Grandchildren: Blake Tynan, Stephanie (Wade) Holter, Christian (Catalina) Colletto, Nick Colletto, Jack Colletto, Sierra Colletto, Savannah Colletto, Dominic Colletto, Olivia Colletto, Chelsea Jensen and Taylor (Justin) Rath. Great Grandchildren: Elizabeth Colletto, Brooklyn Tynan, Claire Tynan, Theodore Colletto, Sullivan Colletto and Clementine Colletto. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Frank Colletto, brother Richard Ulrich, and her eldest grandchild Zachariah Tynan. A public graveside service is being held for Sheila on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025, at 1 P.M. at the Washougal Memorial Cemetery, 3329 Q St., Washougal, WA 98671.
