Robert Lee Goodrich

Robert L. Goodrich 84, died Tuesday, September 14, after an extended period of heart disease, surrounded by his family. He was born March 9th, 1934 in Oswego, Kansas. The second of two children born to Lillian and Lacy Goodrich. After a couple of moves his family settled in Leawood, Kansas where Bob attended a little country school, with two grades to a room, called Corinth, through 8th grade. After Corinth he went on to graduate from Shawnee Mission High School where he lettered all four years in tennis. Bob attended the University of Missouri then participated in the USAF cadet program which qualified him to enlist and enter the pilot training program in The United States Air Force. He loved flying and loved the time he spent as an Aviation Cadet. The day he received his Silver Wings as a jet fighter pilot and commission as a 2nd LT at Williams Air Force Base was a high point of his life. "Once you put on the silver wings you never take them off." The Strategic Air Command needed pilots and his first assignment was to Lincoln AFB to fly the B-47 so his fun days of fighter jets were over. While on leave from Lincoln AFB, he met and was smitten by a beautiful young lady named Sue. They were married on June 2, 1956. They had two children, Scott and Cheryl. They enjoyed traveling and took several trips on the Windjammers Tall Ships. Bob and Sue celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary before Sue passed away from cancer. After Sue's death, Bob's friends made sure he had an opportunity to play golf with a widow who had lost her husband to cancer. They shared the same interests, loved each other's friends and families. Both loved golf and traveling. He felt he had a new lease on life. Bob and Ramona were married September 16, 2006. After rearranging of houses, they settled into a home together in Sun City Grand. They started their marriage playing golf and traveling and continued to do the same at every opportunity. Sometimes with just each other, other times with children and friends. He felt his life was full. They were totally happy and in love. God had given each of them another chance to be happy and they truly were. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Lacy Albert Goodrich and Lillian Francis; and sister, Margaret O'Neil. He is survived by his wife, Ramona; son, Scott; daughter, Cheryl; step-daughters, LeAnn and Debra; 5 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 4 great-granddaughters. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday morning, September 21st, 10:00 to 12:00 a.m. at Royal Oaks Country Club, Vancouver, WA. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Bob's name may be made to The Make A Wish Foundation.
