Richard Eugene Lander

RICHARD EUGENE LANDER April 28, 1927 ~ April 20, 2018 Richard Eugene Lander, 90, went home to be with his Lord on April 20, 2018. He passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was born on April 28, 1927 to Edward and Lucy (Cockrill) Lander in Yakima, WA. He was the youngest of 3 children. Richard attended Pacific Bible College (now Warner Pacific College) graduating with a Bachelor of Theology degree in 1950. While at PBC he met the love of his life Marian Jacobs, and married her on June 26, 1949. They were married for over 64 years until her death in 2013. Richard and Marian served together in ministry for 15 years, pastoring churches in Moses Lake, Elma, Spokane, WA and Del Paso Heights, CA. They returned to Vancouver in 1964 where Richard began his career with Washington State Dept. of Social and Health Services. He retired in 1987. Richard was an accomplished French horn player and enjoyed many years as part of the Vancouver Symphony, Vancouver Pops Orchestra, Clark College Orchestra and the West Winds. He loved his music! Above all else, Dad was dedicated to the church. He served in many areas at the First Church of God. He sang in the choir, served in the prayer ministry, visitation ministry and many church boards. He also served as Interim Pastor for several churches over the years. He had a heart for sharing the Gospel and delighted in sharing his faith with others. Richard was a tenderhearted man who extended grace and love to everyone. He was steadfast in his convictions and committed himself to faithfully live a life that honored God, no matter the cost or inconvenience. His faithfulness to God, commitment to his marriage and family and unwavering belief in the Bible is a beautiful legacy to all of us. Richard is survived by his 3 children, Phil (Karen) Lander, Denise (Jerry) Clark, Tom (Robyn) Lander; 17 grandkids; 26 great-grandkids; sister-in-law, Deana (Evert) Nelson; and sister-in-law, Peggy Jacobs.
