Patricia J. Butsch

Patricia J Butsch {Bradley) died peacefully on July 15. She was born in Aberdeen,Washington on June 17, to Earl C Bradley and Martha Bradley. Pat's father, Earl, worked as a heavy equipment operator across Washington, Oregon, and several western Aleutian Islands during the WWII Campaign. Her family moved frequently and lived in a cabin at Crater Lake, Oregon when she was 6. They settled in 1942, in Vancouver, Washington. Pat attended Shumway Junior High and graduated from Vancouver High in 1948, having served as student body vice president already demonstrating her leadership skills. She was a Rainbow girl. She earned her RN diploma, in 1951, graduating from St Joseph Hospital School of nursing. Pat was introduced to her future husband, Joseph, by nursing classmate (and Joe's twin sister), Mary Jane Angelo. Pat considered Joe the love of her life. Pat and Joe were married in 1953. They would have four children and instill strong values including giving of your time, talent or treasure, giving whatever you have. They strongly encouraged and supported their children to pursue higher education. Pat and Joe were founding members and active volunteers of St. Joseph Catholic Church. After becoming an RN, Pat worked at St Joseph Hospital, then for several physician practices in Vancouver, until retiring in 1989. She deeply loved and was proud of her chosen profession and was active in her professional organizations. Pat moved into the lodge room 249 at Glenwood Place Senior living in March 2005. She moved away from Glenwood Place memory care to an Adult foster home in May 2022. . While living at Glenwood place, Pat was known to be reprimanded for trying to help other residents when it was unsafe for her. Pat was active as a volunteer in their children's lives at St Joseph School, home room mother, health room mother, boy and girl scouts, East Vancouver Methodist Church and St Joseph Catholic Church. Pat loved all kinds of music, and to dance, to play and sing along with the piano. Friday wine, cheese and music at Glenwood was a favorite of hers and she was never disappointed by the performer. She loved to laugh and was an avid gardener having 65 roses in her home garden and maintaining a raised bed in the gardens at Glenwood. Pat and Joe adored and were happiest attending activities for their 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. They enjoyed travelling a bit. In 1996 Pat experienced a brain infection called encephalitis. She was very ill and had many complications. Afterward, she had difficulty with memory and sometimes thinking but that didn't keep her down. Pat moved to Glenwood Place Assisted living after Joe's death in 2005. She remained active; playing her piano, joining in bean bag baseball, arts, and participating in sit and be fit daily. Throughout Pat's life she was kind, loving and positive towards life. Pat is survived by her 2 sisters, Molly Beaird and Dolly Taylor, and Children; Janice Voukidis (Jim), Edgar Butsch (Caroline), Karen Howard (Bruce) , 10 grandchildren ages 24-43 and 7 great grandchildren ages 7-14 (with another to arrive in October). She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joseph and daughter Susan who died at age 43 of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Mo at Glenwood Place was a very special friend to Pat and her family. Pat loved living at Glenwood and her family was extremely grateful to all of the staff over all of the years for their kindness and desire and support to keep Pat independent. A Memorial and graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at 12:30 pm followed by a reception at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 N.E 112th Ave, Vancouver.
