Michael Allen Talarico

Michael Allen Talarico, 55, of Vancouver, WA, passed away unexpectedly in his home, on May 1, 2014.Mike was born in Spokane, WA, on October 6, 1958 to Peter and Henryetta Talarico. He attended North Central High School, graduating in 1978. After leaving Spokane in 1978, Mike moved to Pullman. There he met Karen, and they married in July of 1981. Shortly after, they moved to Kennewick, then back to Spokane where their sons, Eric and Ian were born. They moved to Vancouver in 1992. He was employed by International Paper for 27 years as a Sales Professional. Widely acknowledged for his dedication and work ethic, he earned numerous achievement awards during that time. Mike was dedicated to his children, and was active in many of the clubs and sports in which they participated. He coached both of them in baseball and soccer, and became active in Scouting when they joined the BSA. His involvement included serving as Scout Master of Troop 14. Many youth benefited from his patience, skills, and generous spirit of giving. Even after his sons left the Troop, Mike continued to serve as a mentor, as well as volunteering at the council level.Mike was an avid bird hunter, and was most often accompanied in the duck blind by his beloved dog, Alexandria. Due to his love of hunting and nature in general, Mike was active in Ducks Unlimited for over 20 years. He was instrumental in raising funds through his involvement in the yearly DU Banquet. His dedication to wetlands preservation was unmeasured. Beyond his involvement with BSA and DU, Mike was known as a trapper of moles, washer of dishes, and all-around handyman. He made friends everywhere he went. He will be remembered for his good-natured humor and lifelong willingness to help anyone with anything. Mike is survived by his soul mate, Karen; his two sons, Ian and Eric; his brothers, Tom (Sharon), Mark (Jill), Jim and sister, Mary (Doug), all of Spokane; seventeen nieces and nephews; numerous in-laws; and friends too numerous to count. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tim; and his parents, Peter and Henryetta. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7th at 26104 NE 14th Street, Camas WA 98607. Look for the sign that says "Mike's Memorial". Dress will be casual or camo. The event will be held outside, so please be prepared for typical northwest weather (an umbrella may be wise). Mike's dear friends Andy Cole, Greg Seidel, and Bernie Kelly will officiate.
