Masae Wolfe

Masae Wolfe (née Saika), age 92, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, in Vancouver, Washington. Born on January 6, 1933, in Yokosuka, Japan, Masae lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep compassion, & unwavering dedication to her family & community. Masae pursued her education at Kanto Gakuin Junior College in Yokohama, Japan, where she studied the English language & culture – an early indication of her curiosity & openness to the world. Her academic pursuits led her to a career with the U.S. Department of Defense in Yokosuka. It was there in 1969 that she met Darrell Wolfe, who would become her beloved husband & partner for over 55 years. Their enduring marriage was a testament to mutual respect, love, & shared purpose. After moving to the United States, Masae continued to nurture both her intellect & her passions. She earned a Master Gardener certification from Clark College in Vancouver, Washington – a reflection of her lifelong love for nature & cultivation. Her garden was not only a place of beauty but also a symbol of her patience & care. Masae’s talents were many. She was an accomplished oil painter whose works captured both serenity & depth. She found joy in music through playing the guitar & embraced the thrill of skiing with enthusiasm. A voracious reader & sudoku enthusiast, she delighted in challenges that engaged her mind as much as those that enriched her spirit. Above all else, Masae was devoted to her family. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Naomi; son Ronald; brother Tsuyohi Saika; nieces Sonya Bedient & Nobuko Saika; & nephew Ichiro Saika. She held close the memories of those who preceded her in death: her sisters Nobue Bedient & Yasue Saika; mother Fumiko Hosaka; & fatherMotoharu Saika. Those who knew Masae will remember her as beautiful inside & out—kind-hearted, thoughtful, warm, humble, & strong. Her quiet presence brought comfort to many, & her actions spoke volumes about the values she held dear: integrity, resilience, compassion, & love. May Masae Wolfe’s memory be a source of peace & inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
