MARTIN "BUD" WILLIAM KNAPP March 26, 1924 ~ June 27, 2015 Martin William Knapp passed on to be with his wife, Helen Annamarie Casper Knapp. Preceding him, his parents, Avery Ira Knapp and Lettie Mae Williams; all 13 of his brothers and sisters; and two grandchildren, Dino Michael Knapp and William Martin Knapp. Dad was the youngest of nine children of Avery Ira Knapp and Lettie Mae Williams. Louis Leonard Thompson Samuel Charles Thompson Knapp Emma Bell Thompson Dortha Thompson Mary Ann Thompson Carrie Crane Thompson Earl Arthur Thompson Burt Ray Thompson Mildred Mae Knapp Hillman Lillian Thelma Knapp Clark Iola Irene Knapp Jones Louis Leonard Thompson William Henry Winkley Knapp He has three living children; Dennis Michael Knapp - born 10 Dec 1943 John Avery Knapp - born 28 Dec 1949 David Lee Knapp - born 12 Nov 1952 He was survived by Dennis Michael Knapp and his wife Stephanie Brinkerhoff, John Avery Knapp and his wife Mary Catherine Westendorf, and David Lee Knapp. He had 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great- grandchildren. He was a Navy Man! BM2/USN when he left the service after many operations. He served in WWII in the north Atlantic, and also went to the Pacific. He is a Pearl Harbor Survivor and proud veteran. When I think of dad, I think of a loving father, husband, and dedicated patriarch of his family. He knew of freedom and fought for this great Nation to ensure that we would have the freedoms we enjoy today. Martin married Helen 12 May 1943 in Castle Rock, Cowlitz, Washington by the Justice of the Peace. Dad had many interests and occupations in life after the Navy. He was a lumber jack, college instructor, journeyman mechanic, custodian, field worker in the cotton fields and many other side jobs. He was a man that had to be busy working. He was a great provider and father and husband. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Association, and the Machinist Union Vancouver, Washington. Memorial contributions may be given to any Veteran's Organization of your choice. I would like to thank everyone that made my dad's life and passing an event of life's celebration. A special thanks to my brother John Knapp and his wife Cathy for their devotion and dedication to keeping our dad happy, healthy, and taken care of even during the event of his passing, they were there holding his hands so that he knew he was loved at the hour of his passing. They were talking to dad and assured him that Mom was waiting for him and it was time to go be with her, and he took his last breath and passed in total peace and love. Graveside services will be held 1 July 2015 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 NE 112 Ave., Vancouver, Washington at 11 a.m. Donations may be made to any Veteran organization of your choice.
