Margaret Anna Mortlock

Margaret Anderson Mortlock passed away on February 3, 2010 in Vancouver, Washington. She was born on September 14, 1919, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1939, she graduated from Fort Dodge Junior College where she met her future husband, Roy H. Anderson, who was hired as a mechanical engineer for the Boeing Company and went on to become Director of Engineering for the 747. They were married in Seattle, Washington, in 1940, and eventually moved to the eastside suburb of Bellevue. They spent 45 years together until Roy's death in 1985. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, and community volunteer. She was involved in the Medina-Clyde Hill Mother's Club (PTA) and she was a parent representative to the Bellevue School Board. She was also a member of the Churchwomen of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and became the President of Bellevue Town Hall, a lecture series the church sponsored. Margaret also served as President of the Seattle Assistance League and Overlake Friends of the Library. She was an active member of the Visiting Nurse Auxiliary and the Ryther Center. Margaret was curious, engaging, and had a great sense of humor. In addition to being an avid reader, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, golfing, bridge, and the theatre. She developed an interest in the stock market and was a member of the Vesteens Stock Club for the past 22 years. In July 1992, Margaret married Walter Mortlock, a retired Boeing Engineer. During the next 12 years they divided their time between living in Bellevue and Sun City, Arizona. They shared a love of travel, golf, and family. They moved to Vancouver, Washington, in 2004, and resided in the Waterford at Fairway Village. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, James W. Kinney and Aileen Kinney Harty; and her brother, Eugene Harty of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Along with her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Susan Henry (Byron) of Vancouver, Washington, Linda Anderson (Stephen) of Fairfield, California; her grandsons, Ross Henry (Kelsey) of Woodinville, Washington, and Travis Henry (Heather Geiger) of Portland, Oregon; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a step-son, Scott Mortlock (Diana) of Albany, Oregon; and a step-daughter, Janice Pedersen (Doug) of Bainbridge Island, Washington.
