Margaret Irene Buhman

Margaret "Peggy" (Morrison) Buhman , 91, died March 16, 2015. Peggy was an independent, creative woman known for her sense of style. As a teenager, she participated in 4H and won awards for the clothing she made. As a mom, she sewed beautiful (matching) dresses for her daughters. Peggy was born April 7, 1923, to Carl and Dorothy Irwin in Kimball, Nebraska, the fourth of eight children. During the Depression, her family migrated to Washington, settling first in LaCenter and then Orchards. Peggy graduated in 1940 from Vancouver High School. She began a career in banking at Washington National Bank, which was purchased by Seattle First National Bank in 1950. She would work for Seattle First (with time-off for children) until her retirement in 1984. In 1946, Peggy married Walter Morrison. Walt and Peggy went on to have three children and bought a home in Camas. Once the children were in school, Peggy returned to work at Seattle First National. In 1965, Walt died of a heart attack. Peggy had three teenagers to care for and raise on her own. She did this with the help and support of her large family and her co-workers at Seattle First. Peggy and her two youngest children started visiting her sister, Marian, in White Salmon on the weekends. Marian's family had horses and Peggy and the kids enjoyed trail-riding with Marian's family. Eventually, Peggy bought horses for herself and the kids. The trail-riding even expanded to summer camping trips with the two families and their horses. Peggy kept riding and horse-camping into her sixties. In 1983, Peggy started dating Paul Buhman, a neighbor from Camas. They married on January 1, 1984. Later that year, Peggy and Paul retired. They kept busy with family, activities, trips and improvements to their home. In her early eighties, Peggy started showing signs of dementia. The disease led to increasing confusion and the inability to do many daily tasks. But, Peggy always stayed Peggy. She could make Paul laugh with a smart comeback to one of his jokes. She still appreciated a beautiful piece of jewelry or a cute pair of shoes. Always by her side was Paul. He was Peggy's constant love and support to the end. Peggy is survived by her husband, Paul and daughters Robin (Jay) Roebuck of Pocatello, Idaho and Debbie (Rick) Boyd of Vancouver, daughter-in-law Jill Morrison of Carson City, Nevada, and step-daughter Jan (Harte) Bressler of Bellingham and step-son Doug Buhman of Buckley. She is also survived by brother Bob (Toni) Irwin of Cupertino, California and sisters Marian (Ted) Kolbaba of Bullhead City, Arizona and Betty (Dale) Thomas of Camas; and the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Along with her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her son, Charles Morrison; sister, Virginia Irwin; and brothers Duane Irwin, Ron Irwin and John Irwin.
