Laureta "Laurie" M. Almer

Laureta May Bozarth Almer: Born February 19, 1933 - Died January 16, 2025 Laureta "Laurie" Bozarth Almer, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025 in Vancouver, Washington. She was born to Wayne I and Irene Bozarth on February 19, 1933 in Woodland, Washington, where she was raised on her father's award-winning dairy farm. She attended Woodland High School and was actively involved in the choir and band, often singing solos and playing trumpet and piano. In 1951, Laurie married her high school sweetheart, Lloyd Knight, and together they raised three children: Michael, Carol, and Curtis. While nurturing her family, Laurie worked various part-time jobs, including Avon sales and positions at a doctor's office. In her 30s, she boldly returned to college to pursue a career as a Registered Nurse (RN). After divorcing Lloyd in 1971, Laurie found love again and married Harold Almer in 1974. They enjoyed 43 years of marriage, spending two decades residing in beautiful Ocean Park, Washington. During this time, Laurie served as the Director of Nursing Services at Ocean Beach Hospital in Ilwaco. She then transitioned into a successful business as a real estate broker in her final working years before embracing retirement. In retirement, Laurie and Harold moved back to Woodland to enjoy their golden years in a home Sbuilt by her father on his former farm. Known for her adventurous spirit, Laurie enjoyed travel and was passionate about arts and crafts, including painting, knitting, crocheting, and jewelry making. She won numerous county fair awards for her painting talents. Her creativity and zest for life left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Laurie will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community. She is survived by her children Carol Knight-Wallace and Curtis Knight, stepchildren Debbie Melton and David Almer, and brother Wayne Bozarth, along with five grandchildren, and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, son Michael, brothers Claron "Whitey" Bozarth and Lyle Bozarth, and stepson Dwaine Almer. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm, January 26, at the VanMall Retirement Home in Vancouver, Washington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver, Washington.
