Kathryn A. Kobza

Kathryn "Kathy" Ann Kobza, born September 8th, 1947, peacefully passed away on December 23rd, 2021 at Peacehealth - Saint Joe's Hospital in Vancouver, WA. Preceding her in death was her beloved mother Jean Bond, father Sheldon Bond and sister Shelly Bond-Glen. Her two loving sons survive Kathy: Heath in Vancouver, with his wife Anita and daughter Sydnie, and Eric in Lincoln, NE. Ex-husband Sylvester Kobza, residing in Vancouver, also survives Kathy, as well as her two brothers in Nebraska, Randy Bond and Dan Bond, with wife Luanne. Family was the most important part of Kathy's life. She regularly corresponded with her family in Nebraska and greatly enjoyed spending time with her friends and loved ones in Vancouver. Always around to lend a hand, Kathy was quick to help and offer advice. She had regular walking buddies in her neighborhood and even a monthly lunch group! Kathy was not only a jack-of-all-trades, but a master of them all as well. Three of her favorite hobbies were reading, crafting and baking. She typically had four or five books in her house, all of which she would breeze through in no time. These books were borrowed from her local library, where she often volunteered and read to young children. Given her love of both literature and children, this was a perfect use of her time. She also loved crafting, from making her own wreaths to sewing. In fact, Kathy herself made many of her own clothes. She learned to sew and bake at an early age from her grandmother, Nina Bond. Kathy baked anything one could imagine, and was always open to learning new recipes, though of course she had her favorites. Kathy once recalled her grandmother saying, "Don't forget a little tiny bit of orange zest when you make your rolls, Kathy, because then you'll remember Grandma Bond." That love of baking was passed on to her granddaughter, Sydnie, who will always think of her grandma when making pumpkin bread in particular. When she wasn't partaking in one of her many hobbies, you can bet she was watching the Steelers play on TV. As a child, she began following the team after asking her father who the worst team in the league was, because he told her it was easy to support the winners but much harder to support "losers." Through all of their ups and downs, she learned what it meant to be a true fan... and a true fan she was. Loyal and encouraging to the core, Kathy supported her friends and family as much as her beloved football team. Brother Dan recalls her sense of humor as a particularly memorable thing about Kathy. He remembers her love of storytelling and making sure her audience was engaged through her jokes, wit and story-specific details. Growing up in Osceola, NE created many such stories. Though she may be gone, she leaves behind love, passion, humor, stories and many, many memories. She will always be remembered with great love.
