Josephine Irene Meyer

JOSEPHINE LOVEKAMP MEYER June 6, 1919 ~ September 21, 2012 Josephine Meyer of Washougal passed away on Sept. 21, 2012 at the Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver, WA at the age of 93. Josephine Irene McGinnis and her twin brother Eugene were born on June 6, 1919 to Lee and Ada (Fry) McGinnis in Arenzville, IL. Josie was married to Werner H. Lovekamp on March 28, 1937. They resided in Illinois until moving west to Washington State in 1946. There she raised her family and also worked in the bag factory at Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill, then at Pendleton Woolen Mill as a weaver, and at the Broadway Shoe Store owned by Adam and Alma Eckman located in the One-Stop Shopping Center in Camas, WA. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Washougal where over the years she enjoyed teaching Sunday school, belonging to the Women's Guild, and Bible study classes. She was also a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Josie was widowed at 59 and later married Emil Meyer. They enjoyed traveling to Europe, China, Mexico, Alaska and around the Northwest with their 49ers RV group. They especially enjoyed their winters in the Yuma foothills of Arizona. There they were instrumental in establishing a Lutheran Church where they were active members and attended regularly. Josie had a great many friends throughout her lifetime; the neighborhood "coffee klatch" in her younger years and "Grandma's Club" in her later years. She was a wonderful cook and hosted many holiday meals. Her family will greatly miss her and will never forget her loving care. She is now at peace and finally at home with her Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Werner Lovekamp and Emil Meyer, step-son Michael Meyer and brothers, Noah, Eugene and Russell. Josie is survived by her brother Warren McGinnis of Davenport, Iowa; six daughters all of the Camas- Washougal area, Elaine (Wayne) Rodgers, Judy (Fritz) Haag, Twyla (Mike) Wilcox, Lorie Mauldin, Ada Lovekamp and April (Alan) Humes; 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held Thursday, September 27, 2012 from noon to 9:00 p.m.. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver, WA (360-892-6060). The service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 28, 2012 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 716 Washougal River Rd., Washougal, WA 98671. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the memorial fund at St. Matthew Lutheran Church (360-835-5533).
