Joan Marie Blackler

On October 22, 2018, Joan Casey Blackler passed away in the presence of family after a short and difficult battle with non-smoker's lung cancer. Although Joan hated to be the center of attention, her laughter, sense of humor, and incredible generosity ensured that she always was. Joan was born on December 18, 1957 in Glendive, MT. She was the second child and only daughter amongst five children born to Robert and Beverly Casey. She grew up in Missoula, MT and moved to Vancouver, WA in her early 20's. She was an incredible wife and stay-at-home Mom to Kristin, Eric, and Sean and instilled in them a love of road trips, and a sense of adventure and spontaneity that define them to this day. Joan started college when her youngest son Sean started school. Despite the demands of nursing school Joan never missed a single athletic or school related event for Kristin and Sean. Joan became a registered nurse and found her joy working in surgery. She was a talented nurse, beloved colleague, and a passionate advocate for patient safety. Joan was incredibly funny, renowned for her quick wit and her love of practical jokes. She also became an accomplished quilter and spent many hours laughing with friends while hosting quilting "Cackles" at her house. She loved live music, especially the Rolling Stones and always kept a lawn chair and a change of clothes in her car - just in case she felt like catching live music at Edgefield after work. Kristin, Sean and his wife Hilde, believe they won the lottery by having Joan as their Mom and adoring grandmother "Grammy" to granddaughter Solvei. Joan is preceded in death by her son Eric, her brother Robert "Jeff" Casey and her parents Robert and Beverly Casey. Joan's legacy continues through her loving children Kristin (Chris), Sean (Hilde), granddaughter Solvei, and her siblings; Steven (Christy), Douglas and Donald Casey. Joan also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. A Celebration of Life Ceremony and Reception will be held Saturday, November 3rd, 2018 at 3PM at Evergreen Memorial Gardens 1101 NE 112th Ave, Vancouver, WA 98684 The family would also like to express their gratitude to the many nurses and CNAs who cared for Joan at Peace Health Southwest and Ray Hickey Hospice House as if she was one of their own.
