Jean R. Marks

Jean (Kendoll) Marks was born September 17, 1947, in Los Angeles, California to Lewis and Edwina Kendoll, with twin sister, Joan in tow, another sister Joyce joined them in 1950 and brother Jim arrived in 1954. Jean was involved in various activities at Fort Vancouver High School before graduating in 1965. On July 31, 1964 Jean's life changed forever as she went on the first date with the man of her life, John Marks. The couple courted fifteen months and was married October 15, 1965. Jean worked for a short time as a dental hygienist before starting a family with the arrival son Jeff on July 31, 1968 and daughter Jennifer on March 7, 1970. Jean worked as a bank teller at Vancouver Federal Savings, and was a survivor, and helper to medical personnel during the April 1972 Vancouver Tornado. Jean and family moved to the Twin Cities area of Minnesota in 1973 before eventually returning to Vancouver in 1979. Jean began her career with Vancouver Public Schools in 1981 at Walnut Grove Elementary with the LAPP Math program and special education program. Jean moved into secretarial positions at Panterra, Peter S Ogden, and finally retiring from Salmon Creek schools. Jean is survived by her husband of 48 years, John, son Jeffrey and wife Jennifer, daughter Jennifer and husband Jason Beeks. Sisters Joan Souders of Grandview, WA and Joyce Thompson of McCall, ID. Brother Jim Kendoll of Washougal, WA. Grandsons Alex Marks and Jackson Beeks both of Vancouver, granddaughters Danielle Marks of Bellingham, WA and Sarah Beeks of Vancouver, and Great-Granddaughter Phoebe Fox of Bellingham, WA. As well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Jean participated in Singing Christmas Trees in the choir and greeting the many guest over the years. Jean was gifted with hospitality, and many times her home was open to various missionaries, Rotarians, and traveling college choirs. A firm believer in the mantra of "Random Acts of Kindness", Jean would provide food, clothes, school supplies, household supplies, and so forth to those in need. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00am, Saturday April 12, 2014 at Vancouver Church 3300 NE 78th Street, Vancouver. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to American Cancer Society or Vancouver Schools Foundation.
