Helen 'Lucille' McCullough

Helen Lucille Payne McCullough Born: August 6, 1928 Died: April 27, 2012 Lucille McCullough grew up in a small log home built by her father from the trees on their property in Batavia, Arkansas. She met Robert McCullough when they attended first grade together in a one-room schoolhouse. They didn't like each other. As teenagers, however, Lucille and Robert fell in love and married on the Fourth of July, 1948, against the wishes of both parents, who predicted failure for their relationship due to Robert's ruffian reputation. This is the stuff of humorous family stories now, but no one could have predicted that this relationship would last happily for 63 years and 8 months until Lucille left this earth on Friday, April 27. Robert and Lucille moved to Wichita, Kansas, where they gave birth to two sons, Robert Allen and Donald James. Robert and Lucille felt the call to the Christian ministry with the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee) and pastored in Erie, KS; Pratt, KS; East Wenatchee, WA; Anacortes, WA, and finally for thirty years until their retirement, at the Burton Church of God in Vancouver, WA. Both Robert and Lucille remained active in the ministry in the area, as Robert plans to continue to do. Further delights in the lives of Robert and Lucille were the grandchildren and great grandchildren of which Lucille always had a purse full of photographs to share with friends and strangers alike. Lucille was the matriarch of these generations and taught them in wisdom, absolute unconditional love, direct honesty, full integrity and a wonderful sense of humor. We are proud of the legacy we hold from her and are grieved by the loss of one so loved and loving. Her family has included: Five brothers and sisters: Louise, Jim, Tom, Lillie, and Jerry; Her husband Robert (R.J.) McCullough; Her sons and their spouses: Bob, Don, Rick, Betta, Toni, and Johnn: Grandchildren Matt, Piper, Tiffany and Justin and grand daughters-in-law Denise and Cori; Great grandchildren Brandon, Ashleigh, Alaska, Cedar and Taylor. Lucille is also loved by a multitude of nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends. It is our hope to continue to pass on the incredible gifts that she gave to us. The memorial service will be at The Link church at 7321 NE 110th Street, Vancouver, WA, 98662 at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012.
