Gloria Healy Evans

Gloria Frances Healy Evans went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 6th , 2024 at age 86 inVancouver, WA. She was born in Oregon City, OR on September 5th , 1937 to George Healy andDoris (Hart) Healy. They went on to settle permanently in Vancouver, WA. A graduate from Vancouver High School in 1955. Gloria played the violin in the school orchestraand was active in the Camp Fire Girls. Her troop was led by her mother, Doris Healy. Gloriaalong with her fellow troop members kept in touch and it was a time of friendship and fun sheremembered so well. Gloria was an Alumni of the University of Portland, School of Nursing. She earned her Bachelordegree in Nursing in 1959. While attending U of P Gloria began her service in the USNR (U.S.Navy Nurses Corp) in 1958 enrolling in the Navy ROTC program. After graduation, Gloria wasstationed at Naval Hospitals in California, overseas in Guam, Yokosuka, Japan and back to thestates in Virginia. Her time overseas were among some of her fondest memories. She trulyenjoyed where she was stationed but also her trips through Hong Kong and the Philippines.These experiences helped form her love of Asian art, food and culture. Gloria was honorablydischarged from the U.S. Navy in 1966 as a Lieutenant. Gloria continued working in the field of Nursing upon moving back to Vancouver, WA at St.Joseph Hospital, Emmanuel Hospital transitioning to Occupational Health Nursing for the Portof Portland upon which she retired. She worked in many different departments and wardsduring her nursing career. Her kindness, empathy and warmth were always appreciated. Gloria was devoted to family, always a constant source of strength and support. Her work hourswere either swing or night shift. It mattered not, she was present at family gatherings, campingtrips, berry picking, clamming, helping with homework, enjoyed playing games of any kind ofcards, dominoes, cribbage, spending time with her niece and nephews, her daughters CampFire Girls troops, sports and choir in middle school and both senior parent groups. Gloria'sgrandchildren were especially her pride and joy. She loved watching over them, helping atschool, taking them on trips to the rock museum, special jaunts for ice cream, craft projects andany other thing that caught their fancy. Gloria absolutely loved being at the beach. She was a rock hound. Her favorite places werealong the Oregon coast Newport, Lincoln City and the most special Agate beach. She wouldspend hours in surf and sand searching for the perfect stone, agate, sea shell or sand dollar. Itwas a place she found to be restorative. Among many things Gloria was a voracious reader. Books of all shapes, sizes and genres were inevery room of her home. She instilled this love of literature, writing and the arts to all herfamily. Even towards the end, when she was unable to pick up a book a family member would be there to read to her. Gloria was a strong, amazing, brave woman who will be dearly missed. There is a dark spacewhere her wit, laughter, twinkling eyes and sweet smile once were.Gloria was preceded in death by her parents George and Doris (Hart) Healy, brother Tom Healyand sister Sharon Healy. She is survived by her daughters Catherine Evans Mode and DeborahEvans Gregg; grandchildren Tyler (Lauren) Gregg, Alexandra Mode, Corey Gregg and two greatgrandsons Braxton and Archie. On Thursday April 25th , 2024 a Rosary will be held at 10 a.m.; Funeral at 11 a.m. followed by areception at St. Joseph Catholic Church (400 S. Andresen Rd Vancouver, WA 98661). Hergraveside service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens (1101 NE 112th Ave Vancouver,WA 98684) at 3pm. Special sincere thanks to Homestead Senior Care LLC owners Rebecca and Amos Nutas andEden Hospice for their kind, constant attention and care to Gloria's ever changing medicalneeds and comfort in her last months.
