Georgene Webber

Our mother, Georgene Webber, died quietly in the early morning hours of November 10 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in 1926, mom spent her formative years growing up in Shaniko, Ore., and then The Dalles, prior to moving to Goldendale, Wash. where she graduated high school. Along with her two older brothers, she lived a sparse but happy life primarily in the care of her beloved mother, who died also on the 10th of November, when our mother was just 21. Mom met her future husband (our dad, David Glenn Webber) at Goldendale High School and they married in 1946. They were blessed with five children and lived in Vancouver, Wash. for most of their years together. Mom was a caring, loving mother who cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her faith gave her strength to endure hardships throughout her life when others would have faltered. Her work ethic and personal integrity set the standard for her children to follow. She was a wonderful mother and we will miss her sense of humor and abiding love. She loved to make quilts and learned at the knee of her grandmother when she was just a little girl. Also known for her beautiful crochet work, she had the astonishing ability to turn a ball of thread into a christening gown, or a hat, or a doll dress, or an intricately patterned table cloth. Her handwork was exquisite. In her retirement years, mom was active in the American Legion organization and served as Treasurer and Chaplain at the Moose Lodge in The Dalles. She loved to dance, and she loved her cat, Robbie. Mom is survived by her children, Glenda Lai (The Dalles, Ore.), Donna Webber (Portland, Ore.), David & Mariann Webber (Vancouver, Wash.), Carolyn Nelson (Victor, Idaho) and Michael & Linda Webber (Pendleton, Ore.), along with 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Bonnie, who has been in her life for almost 75 years. Mom was preceded in death by our dad, and by her brothers Amos and Art. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to our mother's friends and neighbors for the prayers, care and generosity shown to her in thought, word and deed. And while our mom would not want anyone left out, we would like to particularly acknowledge her neighbors Dorothy, Aileen and Ethel for their friendship and support, and a hug to Kathleen for her kind and loving spirit. Services will be held on Saturday, November 24, at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, Wash. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Ray Hickey Hospice House or a charity of choice.
