George Lee Held

George Lee Held, born on February 22, 1942, in Selz, North Dakota, raised in Harvey, ND, peacefully passed away at the age of 81 on October 1st, 2023, at his home. He was born to Carl and Katherine Held and was part of a very large and loving family of ten siblings. His two brothers, Stephen Held and Eugene Held, and his seven sisters, Theresa Kunkle, Maryann Held, Bernadine Meredith, Shirley Smith, Angeline Fontana, Julia Held, and Jan Larkin. In 1964, George Lee Held married Sharron Marie Morgan, and together they built a loving family. He was a devoted spouse and parent to his two children, daughter Georgialee Zunker, husband Hans Zunker; and son Jason Lee Held, wife Mara (Wheeler) Held . From these two children he had six grandchildren: Hannah Zunker, Megan Zunker, Taylor Held, Drew Held, Ella Wheeler and Brooklyn Wheeler. After a wonderful 27 years of marriage, Sharron passed away. George was blessed to have loved twice, marrying Sheila Wood in 1994. With his marriage to Sheila of 29 years, he gained three additional children, Ron Orthmann & wife Margie Orthmann, Don Wood Jr & wife Brandie Wood, Shelley Mason & husband Aaron. From those three children he had 11 grandchildren: Ashley Everett-Wood, Anthony Mason, Desiree Munzing, Trevor Thompson, Nina Alexander, Olivia Orthmann, Rebecca Orthmann, Savanna Wood, Rocco Wood, Cole Ford, Hunter Ford and Talon Wood. And six great grandchildren. George was a devoted Catholic with a passion for dancing, classic cars, sports and the outdoors. He was known for his generosity, positivity and the ability to light up any room. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of all who knew him and his friendships lasted a lifetime. He graduated from Evergreen High School and pursued a career in kitchen design and sales, home construction and design, where he made significant contributions throughout his life as an entrepreneur. George is survived by his wife Sheila, sisters Bernie, Shirley, Angie, Julia & Jan. His children, Georgialee & Jason, Ron, Don, Shelley, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 6th, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, reception to immediately follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. A Catholic burial service will be held on October 7th, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. also at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Our Lady of Fatima in George's name to spread the Catholic faith and good to all who need it. The family expresses gratitude to caregivers and medical professionals for their support during his final days. George's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
