Evelyn June Willms

EVELYN JUNE WILLMS June 24, 1931 ~ November 20, 2011 "Evelyn was always ready with a smile and had a warm willingness to share in laughter. She will be missed by many." The word that best describes Evelyn Willms would be "Family". Throughout her life, Evelyn put family first. As a single mother, she managed to raise two successful and well adjusted children, Dan Allen and Denise (Kent) Ziegler. In her second marriage to Stack Willms, she was able to forge strong ties with a new family while maintaining a close relationship and support for her own children. Evelyn and Stack were married for 35 years. Evelyn loved horses as a girl growing up in Gresham, OR. When she and Stack Willms first met, horses were a common interest. Evelyn relished her close relationship with her brothers, John (Frances) and Jim (Nedra) Sunderland and their families in the Portland area. Her sister, Laura (Bill) Grubb of Tacoma, WA, passed away in 1991. As a grandmother, Evelyn rarely missed any of her grandchildren's (Patrick, Albert, Benjamin, Doug and Grant) or great-grandchildren's (Jacob, Miranda, Brooke and Jonas) athletic events or other important family and school celebrations. She took her athletic interest to a new level as she began playing competitive soccer at age fifty-and became hooked on the sport! Evelyn's love of athletics included being a former member of the Clark County Saddle Club. She loved riding her favorite horse "Hobo". She was on the club drill team and competed in "Head and Heel" roping. Evelyn lived in Camas, WA for 41 years and was a fixture in the community. She and her husband Stack lived on 31 acres of forested land above Camas. Their property near Camas was home to a horse arena for a time, but then was replaced by Fir trees. Evelyn loved country living. During her 19 years as a Camas School bus driver, Evelyn not only drove local children to school but also was the bus driver for many of her grandson's school events. This gave her an additional opportunity to be a big part of their lives. She even chauffeured around Greg Biffle. Bethel Community Church in Washougal, WA was a special place for Evelyn. She practiced what she believed, and she believed in her church. Evelyn was a strong woman, with a strong love for her family, friends, and community.
