Evelyn Alverta Simonson

Evelyn Alverta Simonson was born March 23, 1929, in Somers, Montana, to Henry G. Thompson and Gertrude Bell [Lyght] Thompson. After a life well lived, Evelyn passed away on March 2, 2023, just days short of her 94th birthday. Evelyn was an avid gardener, a trait she inherited from her precious father, Henry G. Thompson. She spent many hours tending and planting her gardens before and after the age of ninety. In later years, her grandson, Billy, would help her into the swing under the apple tree so she could enjoy watching him plant and tend the garden. Evelyn was also an accomplished artist as a quilt maker and doll maker. She and her granddaughter, Amy, spent many happy hours constructing beautiful quilts. She also loved making amazingly detailed porcelain dolls. Another favorite part of her life was the yearly trips she was able to take with her niece, Cheryl Bateman, and her daughter Connie Ford. The trips included cruises, trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, and many tropical locations, as well as cities throughout the United States. Evelyn retired from the Veteran's Hospital in 1989, where she was a supervisor in the dietetic department. Her retirement afforded her many years to thoroughly enjoy doing what she loved best: taking care of her great grandchildren, gardening, art, and traveling. Evelyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Bill Ford, her grandson, Billy Ford and his children, Corbin (spouse Lisa) and Ethan (spouse Laurelle), and her granddaughter, Amy Ford and her son Peter. She is also survived by her son, Raymond's children: Kristi Kotrous, Kathi McArthur, Matt Simonson, and Mark Simonson and their families, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond R Simonson, Sr and her son, Raymond R Simonson, Jr. Also preceding her were all five of her siblings, their spouses and her best friend, Pauline Roller. A Celebration of Life event is planned for May 20, 2023 at the family home in Battle Ground. On that day, a garden will be planted in her honor. Throughout the summer, vegetables will be donated to the local food bank.
