Edwin H. Goehring

Edwin Henry Goehring passed away peacefully at home on 22 December 2021. He was interred at Willamette National Cemetery, Oregon, on 10 January 2022. He is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Nancy J. Holland (Joan); his sister, Frances Charlton of Billings Montana; and his sons Don D. Goehring, and wife, Mary Anne Kinsey; and Gregory L Goehring, and wife, Susan V. Hartman. At his passing, Ed and Joan had 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Ed (Bud) was born to Marie Elizabeth Peil and Henry Goehring on May 9th, 1932 in Roundup, Montana. He graduated from Roundup High School where he played basketball and also the Tuba in Band. His early jobs included delivering milk by truck to Roundup residents; working in his father's coal mine and working in the oil fields. Bud loved the outdoors and became a skilled fisherman. He later joined the United States Air Force, serving a 22 year career within Security Services. During his first assignment at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana, he met his future bride, Joan Holland, daughter to Clarence and Minnie (Latham) Holland. Ed's Air Force career then took him and the family to Bremerhaven, Germany; Kelly Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas (3 tours); Wheeler AFB, Oahu, Hawaii; and Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, Alaska. He retired as a Master Sergeant in San Antonio during his third assignment to Kelly AFB in 1974. Following his military career, he worked for Southwest Research Institute, San Antonio, Texas, as an Auditor and Administrator. Beyond his love for Family, Country and the outdoors, Ed faithfully served in many capacities after joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1962. He served as Elder's Quorum President, Stake Clerk, Branch President, Ward Bishop, and finally as a Stake Patriarch in San Antonio, Texas and in Vancouver, Washington. After retirement, he and Joan served a voluntary full time Mission in the Washington DC Temple. Throughout the years, Ed and Joan both freely shared their abiding testimony of Jesus Christ with others and exemplified His love through their kind and caring ministry and service to all those around them. Later in his life and with Joan's tender care, Ed dealt with several significant health issues. Joan then also developed physical challenges of her own and Ed devoted all his energy to lovingly care for her. They were true sweethearts in their 65 years together in this life and will enjoy a joyous re-union hereafter. He and Joan believe that Families Can Be Together Forever. Bud was loved by all. He was cheery, kind, witty, compassionate and treated others with respect, dignity and love.
