Eddy Budd Gordon

EDDY BUDD GORDON, 88, of Vancouver, Washington passed away peacefully on July 31, 2022, following a brief illness. His wife and eldest daughter were with him when he passed. He was the best son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, cousin, uncle, and friend anyone could ever ask for. Ed was born on Wednesday, November 1, 1933, to Jay H. and Myrtle Thelma (Stewart) Gordon in Mission Creek Canyon in Cashmere, Washington. During his childhood he had many adventures with his beloved older sister Betty and his cousins Butch, Dick, and Donnie. The family also lived in Cathlamet, Washington during his earliest years before moving to Portland, Oregon when Ed was in the second grade. He attended Buckman Elementary, Sunnyside Elementary, and Washington High Schools in Portland. His early religious education was through a local Christian Science Reading Room and later the Sunnyside Methodist Church. He met the love of his life, Mary Joan O'Dell, in November 1951 and they were subsequently married in July 1953. Over the course of their 69 years of marriage, they made homes in Portland and McMinnville, Oregon and later in Vancouver, Washington. They raised two extremely grateful daughters, Cyndi, and Cathy, with immense love and respect. They were also blessed with two granddaughters, Michelle, and Sophia, who they doted on and "spoiled" in their later years. A devoted partner, provider and protector, Ed always put his family first. Over the years, Ed and Joan were also parents to many dogs. To say he loved his dogs is an understatement. Certainly, he was greeted at the Rainbow Bridge by Poochie, Laddie, Penny, Deputy Dawg, Luke, Joe, Sojaa, Zeke and Zack. Ed joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served at the U.S. Naval Air Missile Test Center in Point Mugu, California and Fleet Aircraft Service Squadron No. 120 in Iwakuni, Japan. During his years of service, he received the following awards and medals: U.N. Service, Korean Conflict, National Defense, and Good Conduct. He honorably separated from service in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1960. An IBEW 48 member from 1956-1994, Ed enjoyed a long career as a Journeyman Electrician/Electrical Supervisor/Electrical Estimator/Project Manager, retiring from Tice Electric Company in 1994. His hobbies included golf, hunting, fishing, gardening, computers, painting, jewelry making and researching his Scottish heritage. Ed's steadfastness and undying loyalty were perfectly illustrated in the Gordon Clan motto "Bydand" which translated means, "Remaining, Abiding, Lasting." He was an avid wordsmith and loved to tell stories of his many life adventures with friends and family. He will be dearly remembered and even more dearly missed. Eddy Budd was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister, Betty Louise Locke, and son-in-law, Neal Ause. He is survived by his wife Mary Joan Gordon, daughters, Cyndi Zollner (Rocky), Cathy Jayne Gordon, granddaughters Michelle Christine Gould and Sophia Rose Borgeson, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Kaiser Permanente and PeaceHealth's Southwest Medical Center for their kindness and compassion during Ed's final weeks in this life.
