A Jubilant and Purposeful Life Donald Keith Smith May 23, 1930-June 21, 2022 Donald (Don) Keith Smith passed away, age 92, on June 21, 2022, in Vancouver, Washington. With his love, Virginia, by his side, he left this world the way he wanted, with joyful anticipation of meeting his Lord in heaven. Don lived a full life with many joys and adventures! He lived and traveled all around the Pacific Northwest and settled in Vancouver, Washington. He was liked by many people and his friends and family enjoyed his happy demeanor and uplifting encouragements, as well as his quick wit and thoughtful actions. He has been like a father to many, a source of strength and a light pointing to the Gospel of Christ. Don was funny and smart, and he never stopped moving, trying to take care of his health and learning new things. His commitment and empathy to his family and friends never wavered. Don was born in Youngstown, Ohio on May 23, 1930, to his parents Vincent P. Smith and Dorothy M. White and had a brother, Paul Smith and a sister, Cherie (Smith) Carnegie, all who have previously passed. Don was married to his wife Lois I. (Janson) Smith for 57 years until she passed away in 2017. He is survived by his wife Virginia (Grover) Smith of 4 years and his four children: Verna (Smith) Goll Lori (Smith) Giese Larry Smith Lillian (Smith) Bass As well as five grandchildren: Nikolas Goll Heather Mattole Samuel Giese Sarah Giese Tristan Mattole And one soon to be born, great-granddaughter! Don served in the Army during the Korean War (1951-1953). He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and The Korean War Service Medal. His career as a materials engineer included 36 years with the Forest Service, 17 years with the WA State DOT and a full and lively retirement. Special thanks to his loving wife Virginia and his hospice nurse Heather and her Kaiser Hospice team for all the kind and gentle care they gave him. An outdoor funeral service will be held on July 1, 2022, at 12 pm at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver WA. All are welcome to attend. No reception following.
