Dollie H. Seal

Dollie Hope Seal, a long time resident of Vancouver, WA, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2009 at the age of 88. Dollie was born at home on a small farm in Damascus, OR to Martin and Lillian Andersen. Se left Damascus after graduating from Gresham High School to work at the VA Hospital in Vancovuer, WA. While working at the VA she met James Seal, who was a patient at the VA and stationed at an Army post in Alaska. The two were married from August 24, 1943 until his death in 1986. Dollie worked after marrying Jim for a short time at the Jantzen Knitting Mills in Vancouver. She also worked as a cook at Hill Haven Nursing Home and as a school cook and cafeteria manager at Hudson's Bay High School, Peter S. Ogden Elementary and Walnut Grove Elementary Schools. She was a memeber of the school cooks union and a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed church, church functions and Bible study, cooking, baking and cake decorating. She prided herself on making many wedding cakes for family and friends weddings and a favorite love of hers was family meals where family and friends would gether to eat and visit. After retiring, Dollie and Jim enjoyed spending the winters in Mesa, Arizona and after Jim's death she continues to go to Mesa to visit the many friends they had made in the area. In the last few years, Dollie became a memeber of the Golden Heirs at Brush Priarie Baptist Church and the last year Columbia View Care Center in Cathlamet. Survivors include daughter, Janet Dollar of Battle Ground, WA; sons, Doug (Muriel)of Astoria, OR and Ed (Karen)of Vancouver, WA; brother, Charles (Eleanor)of Vancouver, WA; nine granchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Dollie was preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents, Martin and Lillian Andersen; sister, Ester Kehrli; sister, Nellie Andersen; son-in-law, Penny Dollar; and many dear friends. Dollie was a sweet, inocent, gentle and loving woman wih will be greatly missed and dearly remembered by all whose lives she touched. In lieu of flowers dontations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Vancouver, WA. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff and Dollie's caregivers at Columbia View Care Center in Cathlamet, WA for the great care that they have given to her for the last 14 months and Hospice Southwest of WA.
