Dean A. DePriest

Albert Dean DePriest of Vancouver Washington, formally of St. Helens passed away peacefully February 22, 20012. He was 85. Dean was born in Longview WA on August 20, 1926 alongside his twin brother Gene to Ralph and Eva (Elliott) DePriest. After attending high school in Longview, Dean joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served two years of duty; 1944 thru 1946, he served time in the Philippines with the Seabees building docks and off-loading cargo. After his release from duty, Dean went on to college attending Lower Columbia and graduating from the University of Washington in 1950. After graduation Dean soon married his high school sweetheart Harriett M. Satterlee on July 26, 1947 and began working for Long Bell Lumber shortly thereafter. After a number of years in Longview, Dean transferred to their mill in Reedsport located along the Central Oregon coast where the family resided until 1965. It was then that he moved to St. Helens to begin work for Boise Cascade in human resources. Dean transferred to their Wallula mill and lived in Pasco WA from 1968 to 1971. He finished his career back at the St. Helens mill retiring as Human Resource Manager in 1986. Dean took every opportunity to spend time with family and friends. He became a great spectator of his grandchildren's activities offering support and encouragement at every opportunity. He was an avid reader, enjoyed playing chess, bridge and looked forward to his monthly investment and poker groups. Although outnumbered on many occasions Dean loved to cheer and root for his beloved "Huskies". He is survived by his wife of 64 years Harriett, children Mark (Lydia) and Richard all of Vancouver and son David (Janell) of Warren OR. Sisters Sue (Bert) Urie and Jackie (David) Soleim, fraternal twin brothers Dale (Jeanette) and Gale (Susan) DePriest. Seven grandchildren and three great grand-children. He was preceded in death by a son Donald and his identical twin brother Gene. Services will be held Saturday March 3rd, 3:00pm at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver Washington. Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and Hospice Care.
