David Hardy Hertz

David Hardy Hertz was called to heaven on Thursday, June 4, 2026. He was born in Vancouver, Washington on July 29, 1947 to his parents Joseph and Geraldine Hertz. David was raised on a farm with his father, mother, and 11 brothers and sisters. He attended Battleground High School and upon graduation in 1965, enlisted in the United States Army. Before deployment, his sister, Kathy, arranged a blind date with Barbara Ann Meyer. He was star struck with the hope that she would be available after serving active duty. He left for the Vietnam War and served from 1966-1968. During his time away, David and Barbara shared frequent correspondence that founded their love story. David and Barbara were married on September 7, 1968. After getting married, he began a 35 year career with the Crown Zellerbach paper mill in Camas, Washington. They started their family in 1970 with his first born child, Michael. The family grew with the arrival of Monica in 1978, and then Eric in 1980. He retired from the mill and in 2003 partnered with his son, Mike, joining Designs of All Kinds. David was a devout Catholic his entire life. He and Barbara were long time parishioners at St. John’s and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He volunteered his time with many organizations throughout his life. As an expert gardener, the fruits of his labor fed his friends and family, and his flowers provided for them. weekly altar arrangements. He was a founding member of the Serra Club and spent his weekends delivering bread to local community kitchens. David had a contagious laugh, gave unconditional support to all of those around him, always provided sound advice to those who sought it, and believed that family was the greatest gift. Those who knew David understood what a blessing he was in our lives. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara, and sisters Kathy, Winnie, Lorraine. He is survived by his three children, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and eight siblings. A note from the family: We are all grieving his loss, he will be sorely missed. We rejoice that he is with our heavenly Father and reunited with our Mother. Thank you for all the support and love you have shown our Dad.
