David I. Craig

Dave was surrounded by love when he peacefully passed away at his home in Camas,Washington on August 15, 2024.Dave was born on April 29, 1943 in Walla Walla, Washington to Harold and LaVada Craig. Hewas the eldest son and the second of eight children. Dave was a fun, compassionate, thoughtful,and loving son and brother.Dave graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1961 and enlisted in the United States MarineCorps the same year. He proudly served his country and was honorably discharged as a LanceCorporal in 1967.Dave moved to Camas where he met his beloved wife, Gloria Urie, whom he adored. They weremarried 57 years and raised three children together, Terry, Diane, and Sherrie.Dave was a supportive, loving, caring, and involved dad who was deeply devoted to his family.His children were his world and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.Dave began his career with Crown Zellerbach in the pulp and bleaching department. He laterbecame a supervisor and stayed with the company through restructuring, relocation, and changesof ownership. He retired from Georgia Pacific in 2005 after nearly 40 years of service. He wasdedicated to his job, where he built many lifelong friendships.Dave was a fiercely competitive sportsman who golfed, bowled, played softball, racquetball,basketball, and volleyball. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, smelt dipping, clam digging, andcrabbing.Dave loved playing and winning at bingo, and he had the best luck with slot machines androulette.Dave was a member of Gateway Community Church and his faith was a big part of his life. Heloved greeting the congregation and knew everyone by name. He volunteered with variousorganizations, and he supported fellow Veterans. He was a positive person and was alwayswilling to serve others.Dave made friends wherever he went. He was always making people laugh and was adored bymany. Dave was one of a kind and leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter.Survivors include his wife, Gloria Craig; his children, Terry Craig and his wife Mayla ofWashougal, WA, Diane Connolly and her husband James of Camas, WA, and Sherrie Lauer andher husband Paul of Camas, WA; his grandchildren, Ashley, Mathew, Christopher, Denenne, Austin, Corey, Brandon, and Michael; his honorary granddaughter, Dylana; hisgreat-grandchildren, Amelia, Brentley, Grason, Adelina, Hudson, Abel, Josie, Charlotte, andOliver; his honorary great-grandchildren, Caden, Dawson, and Audrey; his sisters, Rosalie andDon Lommasson, Cindy Harrington, Susie and Mark Robins, Tina and Phillip Karmout, andApril Craig; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and many wonderful friends.Dave was preceded in death by his father, Harold Craig; his mother, LaVada Wingert Craig; hisbrothers, Mike and Lee; and his nephews Kevin, Kenny, and Kevin James.A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 22nd from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at EvergreenMemorial Gardens. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 23rd at 10:00 am,followed by a graveside service with full military honors, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
