Betty Jean Kindvall

"She was loved and will be missed very much." Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Betty Kindvall, passed from our arms into the loving arms of Jesus on April 18, 2010. Betty was the youngest of 12 children born to Ara and Mattie Scott in Central City, NE. Betty's mom passed away before Betty's 7th birthday so she was raised by her father, two brothers and nine older sisters! Betty married handsome Marine, Jim Kindvall on March 2, 1947 in her sister, Rosa's home in Central City, NE. Before the middle of 1948, they were relocated to Portland, Or with their three month old daughter. It was just six years and three additional daughters later that they were living in their new home on five acres in Vancouver, WA. Life for Betty became the joyful caring of their daughters, making all their clothing, canning both fruits and vegetables raised in their garden, housekeeping, brownie leadership, PTA involvement and then fulltime work for Pacific NW Bell as a telephone operator and Union Steward. She never missed a deadline, a performance, a birthday - yet her schedule was never too busy to stop and do the unexpected! After retirement, Betty and Jim renovated a house in Lincoln City, OR as a "getaway" for them to enjoy their relaxation. Every summer Betty took each grandchild for a one week stay at the beach house to simply enjoy time with them. Today those memories include lots of games, movies, bookstore visits, laughs and ice cream! She was the special kind of grandma that daughters, grandkids and strangers loved immediately. Betty had a serving heart and was always there for others. She enjoyed the people and the service she could provide the public during the 18 years she served as a volunteer at the Information Desk of the Clark County Court House and as a Clark County Red Cross volunteer for 20 years. Betty successfully defeated breast cancer in 2000 but this time the cancer flew through her body in just four weeks time. Her family was in town to care for her and enjoy her last days. She was joking, sharing and laughing because she had confidence in her future with her Savior Jesus Christ. Betty is survived by her four daughters and spouses: Linda and Denny Zea, Janice Sands, Diana and Blaine Wanke, and Barbara Kindvall; her grandchildren and spouses: Eric Kindvall and Julie Hoffman, Shawn and Angie Long, Julie Briscoe, Leisha and Phillip Dumas, Jennifer Long and Don Westhafer, and Danielle Bishop; nine great-grandchildren; and sisters, Elsie Sims of Henderson, NV and Eunice Hastings of La Mirada, CA.
