Audrey A. Warren

Audrey peacefully passed away January 1st in Vancouver Washington at the age of 92. She lived a life filled with family, service and adventure. She was born in Ferguson Nebraska to Harold and Ardetta Schafer. When she was six years old, they moved west to Yakima Washington where she spent most of her early years. She was active in the Presbyterian Church, which became a focal point for her socially and spiritually for the rest of her life. She married her first husband Ronald Warren, became a mother, and raised four boys: Thomas, Mark, Philip and David. She loved them unconditionally, despite an occasional knuckle to the top of the head, and they will miss her dearly. Over the years she spoiled her six grandchildren as well. Audrey was an independent sort and she did not like to be told she couldn't do something. Her life was full of both challenges and victories; from going to college to eventually teaching at one, from working and raising a family as a single parent to retiring and leading a life of service around the world. She got her Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Puget Sound and eventually taught for many years at San Francisco State University, where she became the Business Department chair and helped encourage many young women to join the ranks of a male dominated profession. For almost 20 years after retiring, Audrey used her accounting skills to help SIL International and Wycliffe Bible Translators set up offices across the globe. She spent time in Africa, Russia and Asia developing and upgrading their accounting systems and training people to use them. As part of this volunteer effort, she also worked in Dallas Texas for a number of years as Treasurer for the fledgling Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics as it developed into an accredited university. Audrey loved to travel and had many great adventures in Mexico, Europe and even Egypt. Into her 80's with her little poodle beside her, she would drive from her home in Surprise Arizona up and down the west coast visiting her family. She eventually ended up in Vancouver to be near her beloved sister Carol Schafer, who accompanied her on many of her travels and was at her side when she needed it most. A memorial service will be held for Audrey at 2pm February 29th, 2020 at the Columbia Presbyterian Church, 805 Columbia Ridge Drive, Vancouver, WA 98664
