Adeline Lucille Mallett

Adeline Lucille Mallett (nee Brunken) died peacefully on July 8, 2015 in Vancouver, Washington at the age of 91. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Sam Mallett of Vancouver, Washington and their children: Mark Mallett (Elena) of Wilmington, Delaware, grandchildren Daniel, Rebekah, and Nona, and great-grandchildren Dean, Emmet and Foster; Phyllis Madison (Michael) of Vancouver, Washington, grandchildren Darcy (Marcus), Katie, and Stephen, and great-grandchild Harper; Richard Mallett (Debra) of Norwalk, California, and grandchildren Deanne, Matthew, Dayna (Shawn) and Michael. Her siblings Edwin Brunken of Plymouth, Minnesota and Ruth Brunken of Lincoln, Nebraska also survive her. Adeline was reunited in Paradise with her sisters Irene Briggs and Ferne Brunken, brother Raymond Brunken, and grandson Jonathan Mallett. Adeline was born on January 31, 1924 in Perry, Oklahoma to Gustav and Anna Ida Brunken (nee Schlosser). She graduated in 1945 from the University of Nebraska's Agriculture Campus in Lincoln with a degree in Institutional Nutrition. She married Sam Mallett on October 24, 1953, in Lincoln, Nebraska. They later moved to Downey, California where they welcomed three children into their home. During her twenty-five years in Southern California, Adeline volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, Campfire Girls, 4H and the Whittier Home Economists Group. She was a dedicated member of the Lutheran church and served congregations in Downey, Seattle, and Vancouver by lending her time and talent to the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and teaching Sunday School. An accomplished culinary artist, Adeline used her education and skills in the workforce as a professional dietician, as a partner in the restaurant opened with Sam and in their catering business. She charmed everyone with her contributions to church potlucks and her class on gourmet cooking. Adeline delighted in the activities and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, as well as those of her beloved University of Nebraska Cornhuskers football team. A memorial service is scheduled for July 18, 2015 at 11:00 am at Peace Lutheran Church, 13112 NE 28th St., Vancouver, WA, Pastor Gary Kraklow officiating. A reception will follow.
